Kadir Kaba was born in Nicosia in 1947. He graduated from ITIA Ankara as accountant in 1971. In
1975, he took up art photography in London. 1978-81 he studied photography at Paddington College,
School of Photography in London. He opened six solo exhibitions, first of which took place London
in 1980. Besides the international exhibitions titled "Beyond the Lines” and "Off Limits”, as well
as local "Perspectives” group exhibitions, he took part in many group and joined exhibitions, and
video-art works. His works has been published in local and international magazines and papers.
In 1986 he was appointed by the Ministry of Culture as commissar and curator of "Visual Arts
Exhibition” at Ankara Yapı Kredi Art Gallery. He also has curated National and International
photographic exhibitions. He has been the member of national and international juries. In 1999, he
was awarded with State Honour Award for his contribution to the Turkish Cypriot Photography. He
founded Cypriot Photographers' Gallery in 2002. He published the exhibition catalogue
"Perspectives" under the sponsorship of the EU, of which they had coordinated the project and
co-curated the exhibition in 2003.
Over thirty years, he has been working as a professional photographer and a journalist for
various newspapers and periodicals. He publishes articles and researches on Cypriot Photography in
newspapers and journals. He has published fotografsanat bulletin during 1998-2001. He published the
book L'ile de Chypre Itinéraire Photographique du XIX au XX Siécle, by Kallimages in 2006 with
Lucie Bonato and Haris Yiakoumis. The book published in Greek and English in 2007 by En Tipis
Publications. His book Ahmet – İsmet Şevki The First Ever Cypriot Photographers, published in
English and turkish in 2007 by Cypriot Photogrphers' Gallery
Since 1996, as a part-time instructor, he has been teaching Basic and Advanced Photography;
Digital Photography; Photojournalism; Desktop Publishing; Editing in Print Media; Newspaper and
Magazine Publishing at Turkish universities and private colleges. At present he is teaching basic
and digital photography at European University of Lefke.
